Conference
The Forensica 2026 conference brings together forensic genetics, forensic medicine, law, genealogy and modern laboratory technologies. The main theme of the programme will be forensic genetic genealogy and the question of how to introduce it responsibly into Czech practice at the level of the international state of the art.
Forensica 2026 will bring current topics in modern forensic science to Olomouc — from Bayesian reasoning in forensic medicine and new DNA technologies to forensic genetic genealogy.
The three-day programme will offer lectures by Czech and international experts, practical case studies, technological updates, and discussion of the legal and ethical boundaries of modern identification methods. A major theme of the conference will be forensic investigative genetic genealogy / FIGG and the question of how to introduce this method into Czech practice responsibly and at the level of the international state of the art.
The Wednesday session will focus on the legal framework for FGG in the Czech Republic, the role of genealogy in forensic investigation, and international experience with the use of genetic and genealogical data. It will also include an English-language panel discussion with experts in forensic genetics, genealogy and law.
The programme will also cover topics such as the audit of a forensic DNA laboratory under ISO/IEC 17025, modern STR and SNP analyses, laser microdissection, and forensic work with scent traces, biological age estimation, plant material and animals in forensic contexts. The programme will also include case studies of serious crime, forensic practice in a war context, and changes in the legal regulation of expert witness activities.
